Rise of Kingdoms is heading into what Lilith Games is framing as its biggest transition in seasons. The long-running mobile 4X strategy game is teasing the debut of fresh cultures alongside a simpler Commander Swap system, changes that would reshape two of the pillars players build their accounts around.

In the near term, the game continues its steady drumbeat of updates and seasonal events. Version 1.1.10, "Starry Rendezvous," rolled out on July 30, 2026, and the summer calendar has kept the map busy with festival-themed content.

What players are getting now

The recent event schedule leans into seasonal themes, giving players fresh objectives without altering the core loop.

The "Night of Sevens" Qixi event series celebrated the Chinese Qixi festival with activities such as Esmeralda's Prayer, Esmeralda's Collection and Riches Unveiled, where players collect Palette Knives to restore murals and uncover treasures.

Earlier in the summer, the Summer Solstice series delivered its own rotation:

  • Midsummer Magic, collecting fireflies to light lanterns and unlock rewards
  • Barbarian Incursions
  • Fisherman's Fortune
  • Melon Market

These are the kind of limited-time loops that keep a mature 4X game feeling active between larger structural updates, and they slot neatly around the version 1.1.10 release.

The bigger shift on the horizon

The more consequential news is what Lilith is signaling for the road ahead. Two teased changes stand out.

First, new cultures. Fresh civilizations reset the strategic calculus in a game where culture choice shapes early bonuses, unit specializations and long-term identity, so any addition draws immediate interest from the competitive playerbase.

Second, a simpler Commander Swap system. Commanders are the heart of Rise of Kingdoms progression, and swapping investment between them has historically been costly and cautious. A streamlined swap would lower the stakes of experimenting with builds and make it easier to adapt to new metas without feeling locked in.

Together, the two point to Lilith loosening some of the game's most rigid systems, a notable move for a title that has trained players to plan months ahead.

The takeaway

Rise of Kingdoms is running on two tracks. The festival event series and the "Starry Rendezvous" update keep the day-to-day loop fresh, while the teased new cultures and reworked Commander Swap hint at a more meaningful shake-up to come. For veterans who have spent years optimizing around fixed constraints, a simpler swap system in particular could be the most player-friendly change in some time, and a sign Lilith is willing to modernize the game's foundations rather than just add to them.
