Project Entropy is a sci-fi strategy MMO where your individual skill matters far less than the base you build, the fleet you grow, and the alliance you join. The first 10 to 15 hours are the steepest part of the curve: progression is time-gated, resources are tight, and the tutorial hands you shiny upgrades without ever explaining opportunity cost. Spend badly here and you'll spend the next week catching up. This guide is about making those early decisions correctly so you snowball instead of stall.
The core loop is simple to describe and hard to master: gather resources, upgrade your Command Center, unlock new buildings and research, train fleets and ground units, then project that power onto the region map to hold territory alongside your alliance. Everything gates off your Command Center level, so the single most important number in your early game is that building's tier — treat everything else as support for it.
Priorities in Your First Sessions
New players lose the most progress by upgrading widely instead of deeply. Focus, don't sprawl.
- Rush your Command Center, but not blindly. Each level unlocks the next tier of buildings and research. Before you queue the upgrade, check its prerequisites — you'll usually need two or three support buildings at a matching level first. Upgrade those, then the Command Center, in that order.
- Keep your build queue and research queue running 24/7. Idle queues are wasted hours in a time-gated game. Before you log off, always start the longest upgrade you can afford so it completes overnight.
- Prioritize resource production and storage early. Higher-tier buildings cost exponentially more. If your production can't keep up, you'll sit staring at a timer. Level your resource generators and, critically, your warehouses — protected storage means raiders can't strip you clean while you sleep.
- Don't over-train troops you can't sustain. Every unit consumes upkeep. A fleet you can't feed is dead weight. Match army size to your economy.
- Complete every daily and campaign mission. These are your richest source of speedups, resources, and premium currency in the early game. The campaign missions in particular fund your first real power spike.
A useful rule: if an upgrade doesn't directly unlock something or increase resource throughput, it can wait.
Building Your First Fleet
Combat power in Project Entropy comes from your fleet composition and your Heroes, not from clicking faster. Think of it as a rock-paper-scissors system layered on top of raw stats.
- Learn the counter triangle. Like most games in the genre, unit types beat and lose to each other in a cycle. Scout an enemy before you commit — sending the wrong composition into a defended target is how you lose an army in one exchange.
- Invest in a small number of Heroes, deeply. Heroes command your fleets and provide powerful passive and active buffs. Spreading experience and upgrade materials across a dozen Heroes leaves all of them weak. Pick two or three that fit your intended playstyle and pour everything into them.
- Match your fleet to your role. Are you a farmer feeding your alliance's economy, or a fighter holding the frontline? Farming fleets prioritize load capacity and gathering speed; combat fleets prioritize attack, defense, and Hero synergy. Trying to do both with one setup does neither well.
- Keep a reserve. Never send 100% of your military out at once. A base with no defenders is an open invitation, and losing your standing army mid-upgrade can set you back days.
Alliance and Region-Map Survival
This is the part solo players underestimate. Project Entropy is built around alliance-based warfare, and a lone base on the region map is prey, not a player.
- Join an active alliance immediately — activity over size. A large but dead alliance won't reinforce you when you're attacked. Look for one with members online in your timezone and a leadership that coordinates. Alliance help slashes your upgrade timers, which is worth more than almost any single building.
- Settle near your alliance. Relocating your base into your alliance's territory means faster reinforcements and shared control of nearby resource nodes. An isolated base is the first one raided.
- Use a shield when you go offline vulnerable. Peace shields protect you during long absences or right after a costly upgrade. Don't let one lapse while your army is out or your warehouse is full.
- Communicate before you fight. Region control is coordinated, not improvised. Follow your alliance's target calls rather than picking fights that pull unwanted attention onto the whole group.
Spend Smart, Grow Steady
Premium currency and speedups are finite in the early game, so hoard them for moments that matter — a Command Center upgrade that unlocks a new tier, or an event whose rewards you can actually complete. Don't burn speedups shaving minutes off a five-minute timer; save them for the multi-hour and multi-day upgrades where they genuinely change your trajectory.
The players who thrive in Project Entropy aren't the ones who spend fastest — they're the ones who keep every queue running, focus their Heroes, and lean on a coordinated alliance. Get through the first 15 hours with your economy intact and a good alliance behind you, and the game opens up dramatically. Play patient, play focused, and the galaxy is yours to contest.
